Where Are The Leaders?

Like a lot of Americans, especially Black and Hispanics, and others of goodwill, the prospects of this being a good Memorial Day Weekend was severly dampened late Friday afternoon by a very distasteful statement by Senator Hillary Clinton.

After reviewing comments and articles in newspapers from around the country, I am certain that the statement by Senator Clinton will be given the close and critical scrutiny that it deserves. What has been bothering me, though, is the apparent lack of reactions from Black leaders who support the Clinton campaign.

What will it take before these leaders open their minds and accept the fact that the Clinton campaign has become a Negative for people of color and goodwill. The Clinton campaign has also become a Negative to the Democratic party and the Hope for Change in America.

Unfortunately for Mrs. Clinton, she may have made the mistake of putting her thoughts into words this past Friday. But what really bothers me is the apparent lack of any meaningful reactions from the Black leaders who have been supporting her. Is it possible that they are unable to see that there might be a connection between continuing an unwinable campaign and Senator Clinton's statement?

In the final analysis, should something untoward happend to Senator Barak Obama we, the people, would have only ourselves to blame. Shame on us for being so politically naieve that we chose as our leaders people whose commitment to self-interest maybe, for some of them, more important than doing the right thing.

Fortunately for us and the county this is Memorial Day Weekend. So there is time for our Black leaders, for leaders of color and for people of good will to toss aside narrow self-interest and do the right thing for the greater good of the Democratic Party. The time to change is here. Stop procrastinating and lolly gagging. Just get on the bus!

It is time for the Undeclared Superdelegates to inform Senator Clinton and the country, that the greater good of the Democratic party and the country requires that they immediately discontinue the informal agreement to withhold making public their preferences for who should be the Democratic Nominee for President!

A Little Something About Me

Through My Eyes

The Elder

I am a retired university administrator and former assistant professor of Political Science. A number of factors have contributed to my initiating this blog that I have chosen to call "Through My Eyes."

First, my daughters have been pestering me, for too long, to take the time to share some of my experiences, thoughts about things that interest me and my world view in writing.

Second, like so many other Americans, I have been knocked off my feet by Senator Barak Obama's campaign to become the first Black nominee of a major political party for the presidency of the United States of America!

Lastly, I have this a continuing urge, some might describe it as a need, to teach, to listen and most importantly to learn.

Perhaps it will help you, the reader, to understand that my world view, the questions that I ask and my answers to those questions will be eclectic. For example, three of the things that most of us are very concerned about are raising cost of gas, food, and the loss of jobs to offshore locations such as China.

Would some of you think that I am over the top if I suggest that China can provide the solutions to two of the three of our most immediate and pressing concerns? My suggestion about how to address our concerns about raisning gas prices is to ask the question:

"How many of you have ever heard of a High-Temperture Gas-Cooled Nuclear Reactor?"

The answer is that this process, if adopted, could lead to safe nuclear energy independence. Unfortunately, at least for now, it is being developed by China. (Actually, we could have developed this technology in the 1950s. But Admiral Rickover decided to go in a different direction with water cooled reactors in developing our nuclear submarine forces. Subsequently, commercial nuclear energy was similarly developed. )

The answer to the question of our concerns about the loss of jobs to China is simplicity in itself. We need to make available a greatly expanded range of commericial and duel use products for sale to China.

There are no situational limitations to Learning.

The real reason for initiating this Blog: "Through My Eyes" is to begin a dialogue and exchange with individuals who are interested in learning how to learn from Each Other.

Hopefully, someone will ask me to explain how it is possible for an Elder can, like me, for example, learn from a teenager or young adult?
